Senior researchers say the banana type is resistant to diseases and does well in ordinary soils.
A mature bunch displayed by NARO weighed 130kg – a normal “big” bunch weighs about 40kg. The new variety takes 14 months to mature.
Scientists say the variety is free from the notorious fusarium wilt and the sigatoka leafspot diseases and tolerant to weevils and nematodes.
