The Viper is pneumatically-operated and designed to run continually, on a six-second cycle, thus producing ten items per minute. Being compact, simple to operate and low maintenance, the machine is ideally suited for small entrepreneurs serving the African market. Labour requirements are minimal and raw material for manufacturing the containers is readily available.
The Viper MK1 produces containers up to 500ml-size and costs around $30,500. Its closest equivalent costs $76,200. The MK 2-model manufactures containers up to 1 litre-size. The Viper was first demonstrated in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1999. Since then it has been subjected to much research and development, to incorporate new technology without compromising on simplicity. There are currently 7 machines in operation in southern Africa.
The requirements to run a Viper are 25 amp, 3-phase electricity and a small, 6-bar compressor for air supply.
