The mills have a steam cooking facility and are semi-mechanised, producing good quality oil with low free fatty acid content, suitable for refinery.
In addition to cookers, the mills are equipped with feed conveyors, a digester, mechanised thresher, continuous press, oil clarifiers and oil and sludge tanks. Also included is a 40kW generator set, to drive the motors.
Mill capacity and designs vary, depending on the required hourly throughput. Prices range from US$30,000 for a mill processing 200kg fresh fruit bunch (FFB) per hour to US$180,000 for a mill with a capacity of 2,000kg FFB/h.
According to the manufacturer, Persus Palm Consultants, oil produced by the mills can be sold to refiners for production of refined palm oil or palm olein as vegetable cooking oil. Palm kernels can be processed into palm kernel oil and cake. Good quality cake is widely purchased in Europe as animal feed.
The company also offers small processing units for coconut oil production, as well as high-capacity mills for plantation use. Upgrades and extensions to existing mills is undertaken, too.
Persus was established in 1995 and has since undertaken projects in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, India and in central and west Africa.
