$20.28m grant to boost rice and vegetable productivity in The Gambia

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will provide a $20.28m grant to the Republic of The Gambia to help improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers

– especially rural women and the youth – by transforming the   agricultural sector from simply subsistence farming to an increasingly efficient market system.
The project will enhance rice and vegetable production nationwide through sustainable land and water management practices, and strengthen farmers’ organisations to help commercialise their activities to boost household incomes. It also aims to increase the productivity of limited farm land and support improvements to infrastructure, such as water and roads.
